In my opinion wikipedia has changed our use of encyclopedias. Wikipedia gives us the opportunity to have all the information that we need just making a “click”, like a general description of a country or a famous person. In addition, offers us related information that can be useful for us. In the past, using only encyclopedias, you could stay in a library hours and hours to find the information.
But we don’t have to forget that anybody can post in wikipedia, it’s the free encyclopedia, and maybe the information that one person writes is not accurate. That’s why I don’t consider wikipedia as a primary resource, it can be useful to have a main idea, but when we need real information is better not to trust in this resource.

This is some great information Itziar! I totally agree that Wikipedia is a questionable resource. They are making some changes to the site in order to address this problem. Can you find out what those changes are (have been)?
ReplyDeleteWhat would be some other solutions to help make Wikipedia a more reliable source? Can you think of any other popular examples asides from Wikipedia where we must be careful about getting information?
