How I started learning English.

I started learning English when I was 9. First we started with few lessons in my elementary school, but after a while I noticed that I needed more lessons to learn more, the lessons in the school were not enough! That’s why I used to go to a private academy after school. But then, I started university and I didn’t have time to continue with the English lessons, so I lost fluency. So that is why I’m now in Boston.

In my opinion to be fluent in English is essential nowadays. If we want to have a good job, or if we want to travel around the world, we have to speak English. In addition, we can communicate with other people easily if we know this language. I think that has a lot of advantages, so let’s learn it!!

I arrived in Boston 10th October and since then I think I have practiced a lot. Almost all my friends are from different countries and they don’t speak Spanish so we are forced to speak in English. Sometimes we correct the mistakes to each other and we learn together. I think that in my lessons I’m doing pretty well and I’m happy because of that, it’s a personal satisfaction. But of course there are some aspects which I need to improve, for example the speaking. Sometimes I feel that nobody correct me when I say something wrong, so I would like to have some speaking lessons with a native speaker and be able to understand all the idioms and sayings.

After Boston my next step will be France, to learn French. I hope one day I would be able to speak English and French as I speak Basque or Spanish. Meanwhile I will continue practicing all the languages I know frequently, so I’ll not lose fluency.

  1. You are a traveling lady! It is too bad that you lost some of your English skills, from when you were young. Good news is, most linguists would probably say it's still there, you just have to awaken it! Good thing!

Hopefully I have done more correcting for you in class. I try to correct students whenever I can, although sometimes it is a debate whether or not to interrupt someone's speaking and train of thought. I wish you were in my class for longer, as I believe that should be an idioms unit coming up soon. Good luck in the upcoming weeks! I have enjoyed having you in my class Itziar!
